The Marquette Redmen hosted the Kingsford Flivvers in Great Northern Conference action tonight at Gerard Haley Field in Marquette. Marquette swept the doubleheader with a 5-3 win in game one and a 9-5 win in game two.

Game one saw the Flivvers came out with hot bats as they plated three runs in the top half of the first inning. However, the Redmen countered by plating four in the bottom half to take the lead and then never looked back.

Although the Redmen didn’t score again until the fourth inning, Blake Henriksen really settled in on the mound and was able to get the victory. Henriksen went five innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine and walking four.

Jake Allard-Soucey came in for the last inning and closed the door for the save for the MSHS. Marquette doubled up on hits with 10 and only allowing five.

Leading the way for the Redmen with two hits apiece were Peter VandenAvond, Henriksen, and Jake Peterson. Adding single markers were Erik Johnson, Brady Wright, Brendan Kaski and Nick Plourde.
