Multiple Teams · Peterson and Olivier Named May AOM

The Female Athlete of the Month for May is Izzie Peterson.  Izzie was nominated based on her consistently high effort both in practice and at meets.  Izzie is currently participating as a member of the girls track & field team.  She is coming off a fantastic performance at the regional meet where she finished 1st in the 200-meter dash and 2nd in the 100-meter dash.  She was also part of the 1st place 4×200-meter relay team at the meet.  She will be looking to defend her 100-meter and 200-meter titles at the U.P. Finals that will take place on June 3rd.

In addition to being a member of the girls track team, Izzie is also a 4-year member of the girls basketball program at MSHS.  She received All-U.P. Honorable Mention while also serving as a team co-captain on the varsity team this year.  Izzie is also a high achiever in the classroom, where she currently owns a 3.59 GPA.

Izzie’s hobbies and interests outside of school include hiking and reading books.  In addition she volunteers at Willow Farm Therapeutic Riding and has also served as a Bay Cliff Health Camp Counselor.  Izzie has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Northern Michigan University in Fall 2017, where she will participate as a member of the indoor/outdoor track & field program.  At NMU, she plans to enroll in the pre-veterinary program.

The Male Athlete of the Month for May is Alec Olivier.  Alec was nominated as a result of his outstanding play and leadership as a member of the boys tennis team.  He has been lauded as a tough competitor who is consistent and will never beat himself.  In 2016, Alec was the U.P. champion at #1 singles as a freshman.  He was named U.P. Player of the Year in addition to receiving All-State and All-U.P. First Team honors.  His overall record for 2016 was an impressive 17-0.  Alec is again the premier player in the U.P. this year with an undefeated record and will be looking to defend his U.P. Division I Championship at the U.P. Finals that will take place in Negaunee next Wednesday.  In addition to his accomplishments on the court, Alec also succeeds in the classroom with a 3.05 GPA.

Alec’s hobbies and interests outside of school include birding.  He currently serves as a board member of the Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society.

When considering his future plans, Alec says that he would like to continue his tennis career at the University of Montana, where he would major in wildlife biology.
